On this day in 1973, singer-songwriter Victor Jara, was tortured and murdered. Chile lost a beloved voice that had long echoed throughout Latin America. With guitar in hand, the iconic activist was the voice of the oppressed. People who suffered–and still do–from corruption and injustice that ultimately took Jara's life. 

Today, we celebrate Victor Jara's life and the life he wanted for all of us.
